1: Review
Five year old Sharla Cody is sent to live with seventy-year old, Addy Shadd. Addy is in no way related to Sharla but she is the first person who answered her door when Sharla's mother, Colette knocked and offered to take Sharla for the summer. Addy lives in a trailer park. She is all alone, so when Colette is looking for someone to take Sharla; Addy agrees. It will be nice to have someone to talk to again. Sharla and Addy will teach each other things despite their age differences.
Ok let me first get this out of the way by say this "Oh My Gosh". I did not realize how much this book was going to affect me. The reason is that Lori Lansens has such a distinct, prolific writing style that Addy and Sharla just came alive for me. It was like I was living in that trailer park along with Sharla and Addy. The friendship that Sharla and Addy formed with each other was precious and one to be treasured forever. I started reading this book last night and in a matter of only a few hours I had finished reading Rush Home Road. For being Lori Lansens first novel as well as the first one I have read by this author, I give it a perfect ten! Rush Home Road just became one of my new favorite books. Lori Lansens is one author to watch out for. A true powerhouse.

3: WONDERFUL!!!
I have just finished Rush Home Road. Once you start reading, you cannot put it down! It has been my companion for the last few days. I took it everywhere with me just to get a chance to read while at the bank drive thru, doctor appointments, stop lights (hehe) etc. Books like this one are few. Grab it. You won't be disappointed.

4: No boring parts!
Loved the history/ loved the writing/ so refreshing to have something different to read. Every character adds value to this book! Not one of them unneccessary. The language and content might seem offensive but is needed for the story to seem real. Not every story needs sugar-coating and the raw emotions portrayed here are beautiful!

5: Beautiful story--highly recommend
Lori Lansens is a gifted story teller and she is on my watch list for her next book. From the time I started reading the story of Sharla Cody and Addy Shad I was mesmerized by both lives. Lori does such a great job of creating the details of Sharla's life with her young Mother who isn't ready for Motherhood, that is made you want to grab this little girl right out of the book and take care of her.
In heartwarming detail she created the Old Woman's life- Addy Shad. It broke your heart to read her story and learn what she had endured as a young woman and how through a series of brutal and tragic events she lost the love of her life, as well as her family through no real fault of her own.
Together Lori weaves the two stories together and creates a beautful relationship between the old woman and the little girl, right on through the surprising and happy ending.
Keep writing Lori, we're hungry for more!!
