1: Muy entretenido
Otra obra de arte de Vargas LLosa. El libro es muy entretenido y la lectura es muy r??pida.

2: Captivating novel
As a peruvian, I truly appreciated the narrative and the words used, it brought me back to the time I lived in Lima. I was actually hoping that the book would have continue until 1990. Llosa described the political atmosphere in Peru during the decades, and given the fact that he ran for president in 1990 I think it would have been great to read about that, but I can understand why he did not.
One reviewer mentioned how come women do not feel offended about this novel. Here is my response to that, lets face it, there are terrible man in the world and terrible women as well, lets stop pretending that when somebody describes a bad woman it should be offensive. Besides, if I should feel offended would be on the lack of character of Ricardo, who lived his life in a mediocre way and his only goal was to be with the bad girl, I do not think that he was portrayed as a hero by any means.
Overall, the novel was very interesting, funny in some ways, the descriptions of the story transports you to those days even if you were not even alive then. Great job by MVL

3: La Belle Dame sans Merci
Where are the women who are offended by this book? The Bad Girl (why "girl," not "woman"?)is a very bad girl. In Japan, for example, she gets involved with a Japanese gangster, a sinister character, a "boss in the Japanese mafia." And yet, in the long misogynistic tradition of Western and South-American literature, the weak-kneed hero longs for her with all the frail force of his corrupt soul: "It was clear, the bad girl's indescribable audacity would never cease to amaze me." Why? From the beginning of the book, the bad "Chilean" girl is put up for merciless ridicule. This is how the narrator describes her in her hour of distress, after her real identity is revealed. He asks her to dance with him "'Mambo No. 5'", her specialty, but, lo and behold, "Lily couldn't do anything right, she lost the beat, became distracted, made mistakes, stumbled, and her little sailor's hat slipped, making her look fairly ridiculous." The book, it seems to me thrives on ridicule: at one time it is the woman who is humiliated by the man, and another time it is the same man who is humiliated by the woman. The woman who initiated the party is dubbed "the fat little pig," and so on. The source of "pleasure" in this book is in humiliation: sought, slapped on, and enjoyed. Well, I do not enjoy it. It is not the kind of pleasure that amazes me. It degrades men, women, and art itself. What is most astonishing to me is that the author who wrote, a few years ago, the wonderful article "Why Literature" in The New Republic would succumb to such cheap temptations, a book that does not build or show the complexities of character but engages in some nefarious dance of skeletons.

The book was missing about 10 pages. this is unacceptable.Pages 73 to 88 were missing. Would like a new book with all the pages.

5: Just a masterpiece
I got this book as it was recommended by a person I love a lot. She told me that this will be a good reading and she was absolutely right. The way how Mario Vargas Llosa describes every single place, situation and feelig is just something that gets you into the history pretty quickly. It was really hard to stop reading it since i started it. That is why I finished it just in 2 nights. Mischiefs of the Bad Girl was for sure a great novel and was worth the time for sure. I highly recommend it...
