1: Great After-The-Hurricane Coverage
I love Avant Guide for their supercool coverage of restaurants, hotels, bars and sights. This edition doesn't dissappoint because, even after the floods Avant Guide proves that New Orleans remains one of the best cities in the world. If you're looking for a resource that tells it like it is, about where to go and what to do to have a truly unique experience, then this is your guide. I also often travel with Lonely Planet, but it didn't help me at all here.

2: It's the perfect guidebook
I love Avant Guide. There is so much to say about it. First of all, I live in San Francisco, and originally bought the San Francisco book to get to know my own city better. I see it in book stores all over the city and the look and format stands out head and shoulders above the competition. This New Orleans book is amazing. It's the perfect guidebook. I love everything about it: The pocket informer at the end of the book, the tidbits at the end of each chapter like the right wine to pick with food and the clothing size converters. And the slang section is one of my favorites. I also found many surprises listed in timelines that were new to me. Next time I travel, there is no doubt which book I will be taking along!

3: Informative, entertaining
When I was walking through the French quarter I was stopped by Anne Rice and she asked me for directions. I was happy to have my Avantguide with me. Just kidding. But the guide is great! Well structured with thoughtful layout and exact information. It gives you all you need.

4: Simply Great
This guide gave me a proper upperside knowledge about New Orleans, but also about the underside (about which I am not going to tell my wife). I had the greatest time in my life!

5: move over, Rough Guide!
I approached this book with a skeptical eye after reading a few samples of its prose, as I am usually very skeptical of overly trendy things.Well, after taking it with me to New Orleans was pleasantly surprised to find that most of it is simply dead-on, and the layout/organization of the book as well as the straight-to-the-point writing made it the best travel book I've ever used! My only complaint is that the low-end section of hotels and restaurants could be expanded a bit more, just for those of us who DON'T have oodles of dough to toss around. Otherwise I would've given it 5 stars, easy.
