1: A lot of handwaving, no real info
I did not find this book to be especially useful. I bought this book as preparation for a faculty position in engineering that I am starting next year. While the book did offer some interesting insights, I didn't get much in the way of specifics. For example, the book reminded me that freshman may have poor study skills, may be adjusting from being away from home for the first time, and come from a variety of backgrounds, but it offered no concrete information on how to accomidate those problems in my lectures, teaching or syllabus.
This book tries to cover teaching and research together. I would recommend getting separate books on these topics. I haven't yet found a good book on teaching (although McKeachie gets a lot of citations), but At The Helm: A Laboratory Navigator is an excellent book for starting a research lab.

2: Very simple to understand, but very impressive ..
A university faculty has very important position as a educator though he spent a lot of time as a researcher. No student can not be a great professionalist without the proper training from the sound minded and well planned teacher. This book reminds you again. Once one became the the new faculty in the university, he spent most of his time to become an active researcher before he becomes a good educator due to the outer necessities. The output of the research in university should be best used for the class before it is used for commercial uses. This book explains and guides how a new faculty can succeed as an educator and researcher. If you are the new faculty, I strongly recommend you to read it. If you are a senior faculty, I also strongly recommend you to read it to refresh you up to behave as a nice eduactor and researcher. Thank you for Drs. Davidson and Ambrose..
