1: We wish we could ignore it but we can't!
I read this book and did not know what to expect. It has definitely changed the choices I make when it comes to food and where I buy it. It has also inspired me to eat more meatless dishes and learn more about other types of foods I probably would have never tried.

2: Confirming the gross-ness
This book just confirms the other reading I have done on the subject. Read it if you are ready to get the facts and stop ignoring what I like to refer to as the "gross-ness" of the meat and dairy industry (both in terms of the animals' treatment, and the impact for everyone and everything else). Yuck!!!

3: SLAUGHTERHOUSE: The Shocking Story of Greed, Neglect, and Inhumane Treatment Inside Inside the U.S. Meat Industry
This is indeed SHOCKING. I consider it a must read for everyone concerned with food safety(esp children-CDC has reported a large increase in e-coli and other food born illnesses)and above all(for me)the inhumane treatment of animals. The USDA inspectors are a "farce" and support the industry's toxic and inhumane practices. Too many animals are killed alive and contamination is rampant(up to 80-90% contaminated meat and esp chicken). The workers suffer from PTSD and safety regulations(OSHA)are not enforced. And all this horror is from greed and to increase profits. The findings were presented to all the major networks for a documentery and all refused.....too graphic for TV !!! Hopefully, PBS will consider doing an expose to disclose these horrific practices. It's truly a heartbreaking read and calls one to action.

4: A Must Read!
This book should be read by everyone. It is hard to stomach at times though because of the brutality brought on these helpless animals. I already was a vegetarian but after reading this book, I went a step further and am now vegan. I have never felt better and I know that I am not contributing to the pointless inhumane treatment of all of these animals. Please read this book.

5: Eye Opening
This is an excellent and well written book. Parts are difficult to read. Because of this book my family no longer purchases meat in a restuarant or from the super market.
