1: Perfect study companion
A great book. It explains how some of the signs and syntoms appear, which allows you to, as a medical student, understand them instead of memorizing patterns. Helps you think and It's great while you study. Written by nurses. Surprising.

2: can also be used by a lay reader
Strictly speaking, this book is aimed at a healthcare professional; typically a nurse or paramedic. Yet it can also be valuable to a lay reader. Comparable to the Physician's Desk Reference. The terminology is not so specialised as to defy understanding by the latter reader.
Plus, the intended audience does not do surgery on the patient. Rather, she observes and has access to perhaps some simple diagnostic equipment or drugs. Another reason why the guidelines in the book can also be followed by others.
