Customer Review:

1: Hands on examples.
I ordered this book thinking that I would get hands on examples. I was misled by the information I read about it. By examples, I mean examples of the following kind: description of a medical case followed by its coding solution together with potentials mistakes and errors.

2: Profess Ed is nice, but still a step down frm Expert Edition
Professional edition lacks "key" for CPT's showing if 50 modifier is needed;or if assistant surgeon/PA are billable, as well as many other clues for procedures/surgeries maximum re-imbursement. Where as the CPT EXPERT coder provides all the extra info, it may not be as "eye-appealing" as the Prof Ed, but it's much more precise. I've used both books, I love the Expert Ed. and I'd rather not go back to the Professional edition though it is considerably better that just the "regular" CPT.
When coding surgeries for a multi-specialty clinic the Expert Edition is a "must" not a luxury.

3: Professional edition CPT book
As a coding/compliance auditor and educator, I recommend this edition of CPT as compared to the standard edition. It has great illustrations that make understanding the anatomy of the code much easier. I also prefer this edition to the expert because some of the wording in the expert edition is more crowded and less eye-appealing. Also, the spiral-bound version is easier to handle if you use the book on a regular basis.

4: A Must Have For All Physician Offices!!
I currently work in a family practice office and we use the standard CPT 2000 code book. While it is just fine and there is nothing wrong with it. I have found the Professional version to be a much better choice.

I am studying to take the AAPC coding test to become a Certified Professional Coder. I have been using the CPT 2000 Professional book in my studies. The graphics are clear and concise, and very helpful when coding procedures one may not be familiar with. Where as the standard CPT 2000 book does not include any graphics to assist in coding. The extra information it gives on procedures is also of great help. Also the use of different colors to divide the sections aides in helping find codes faster than the basic black and white of the standard CPT 2000 code book. This book also includes indented tabs that assists you in finding codes in a more efficient manner. I still have to say that the graphics of the various body systems and organs make this the only choice for a CPT book.

So, if you are in the market for a new CPT code book this is a must have in your office.
