1: There is more in life than Lobster.
#1.) Don't keep telling me how good the Lobster is at each place. Some of us are on a budget and if a restaurant can screw up a Lobster they need to be run off the island. Good food should be judged more by their low budget dishes.
#2.) 1/3 of the reviews I didi not agree with.....Stay away from the 5 Palms in Kihei. It has been a long time since I have seen anyone destroy good fish like they do. Guys....well done on fish is not the trick to good food.

2: fantastic book! must have for maui
My wife and I went to Oahu and Maui for our honeymoon and on the airplane ride there we both made our choices for which restaurants to visit. We visited one or two places a day and were pleased with all of them!! We only wish there was a book for Oahu becuase our trip there was disappointing every night for food, luckily we were in Maui for nearly 10 days of eating so we were able to end on a good note.
We tried every level of food - from cheap eats like Guri Guri and Cafe au lait, to expensive and top-notch at Capische! and Spago. We only wish we had more time to try more places. Some places we never would have even known about with the best burgers and views and popular places where we may have gone already but wouldn't have ordered what we did without James & Molly's recommendations.
All in all, phenomenal book with great picks and truly a must have for first-time Maui travelers. We'll be using it on trip #2 and if anyone we know goes this books is top on our list to let them borrow.

3: So Helpful to Us!
We have used another book on Thrifty Restaurants of Maui.. This new book is also a must on saving money but most of the restaurants listed are in a bit more pricey range. I liked that they also listed restaurants that they DON'T recommend and explain why. Restaurants are divided into areas of Maui; another list have the restaurants divided by type of restaurant...Chinese, Mexican, etc. Before going to Maui, I have read all the listings, and starred the ones that sound so good that I don't want to miss them; I've marked others that are a good buy and less expensive, etc. I'd highly recommend buying this book and taking it along to Maui as you vacation.

4: Makin' it so easy...!
Not having visited Maui in 30 years, I had no idea where our family of four would be able to eat at reasonable prices. Given the fact that Hawaii, in general is so expensive, this wonderful book not only gave a comprehensive and entertaining review of Maui's offerings, but it was organized, thorough and easy to use as a daily guide...which we will for the next two weeks!
This book made an important part of our trip less challenging and took away the stress and frustration of trying to find nice, clean and reasonably priced restaurants.
I am so very glad we purchased this book -- I recommend it highly -- no one should travel to Maui without it!

5: Very useful and enjoyable
We just got back from a week in Maui and found this book very useful. We love to eat well on our vacations and it was fun to read before the trip. One restaurant we went to twice after their recommendation - Mala - and it was one of my favorite memories on our trip, sitting so close to the ocean we caught some spray at one point (!) and having a really nice meal.
My only reason for giving it four stars is it's not easy to tell where on the island the restaurants are located - I would have liked more geographical info so I didn't get excited about a review only to figure out it's over two hours away from our hotel.
