1: Okay but not great!
I bought this when I got my Singer embroidery machine. It is okay as far as some of the fundamentals but I think it could give more info for the price. It's too slanted toward BabyLock machines in my opinion. The book has lots of very pretty pictures but I would have liked more information to go with them. I really neither recommend or not recommend it because it depends on what you are looking for.

2: Machine Embroidery with confidence
The book explains different techniques, explains different types of backings. It is very useful for a biginner. Having this info in a handy book is really good. One can refer to it over and over. The author gives tips, and warnings. These should be heeded.

3: An informative book - good as any in Nancy Zieman;s series
An informative book - with beginner info and advanced tips with plenty of images - illustrations and photographs. I've found Nancy Zieman's books to be useful in expanding my knowledge in the art of sewing and are worth picking up - either new or used.
Now - If only Nancy Zieman learned to smile a little on her book's covers ;)

5: Not an old book, but out of date
Nancy Zieman is a Baby Lock dealer, so this book is heavily slanted in that direction. If you have a Baby Lock, it might be very useful. It is full of very pretty pictures, but not all that much useful information. We beginners need a book that is not an advertisement for a certain kind of machine. What is really needed is a "Machine Embroidery for Dummies" type book since the introduction of the Singer Futura and Quantum Futura machines which run off your computer have made it possible for so many more of us to afford embroidery machines. It's a whole new ballgame, and there are going to be a whole lot more players than ever before! Save your money and keep looking for a book with more substance.
