1: Rough reading, Interesting Ideas
The world created by the author is relatively novel, and the way that the paranormal world operates also has it's uniqueness; however the whole book is truly brought down by an absence of coherent writing. Important details are missing (not in the "mysterious" way - more in the "incomplete" way); the pacing feels wrong; overall, the writing got in the way of the plot too much for me to get into the reading, let alone enjoy it.
This book just smacks of rookie author who's editor did them no favors. Hopefully she'll grow a little more as an author and realize the potential that this book showed.

2: Enjoyable urban fantasy with a sprinkling of hot romance!
I nearly didnt read this book because of the bad reviews but when I did - I had to reread the reviews to see what others were commenting on.
OK so we all have a different take on what makes a good book but I am a little lost on the poorly written, doesnt flow theme featured here. I picked the book up and read it solidly over the following 24 hours. I liked that it was written by an established author - there are a lot of good urban F books out at the moment but many suffer from 'I used to be a waitress but now I write books' syndrome and what I mean by this is that the books are great but the writing doesnt flow and they can be hard to read despite the contents being of interest. This book is not one of those - it is easy to read and I didnt have any difficulty staying with the plot.
To me, if you read fantasy you want a book to transport you somewhere else while you read it, you should walk along side of the characters and feel what they feel. In this respect, this book delivers.
Other plusses for the book - Delilah is not whiny, angry or angst ridden, her love interest is hot but not over done and the retro techno background featured in the book is a nice new wrinkle on the standard UF themes. Also there was no hard to get into start to this book. By the end of chapter one, you are on your way.
The only inconsistency I noticed was that Delilah starts out looking for her sister but then gets distracted away from her task and the book goes in a whole other direction with nary a look back. My take on this was it was a taster theme for Book 2.
If you like Cassie Palmer, Kate Daniels and Anna Strong, you can add Delilah Street to your list.

3: If I could give it 0 stars I would!
Total and complete waste of time. Confusing, disjointed story line, unlikeable characters. Poor grammar. Over usage of the exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't waste your time. Don't borrow it! Don't buy it! And don't read it!

4: Borrow, don't buy
I love a good mystery, and I adore a good mystery with a supernatural/fantasy twist, unfortunately this book just has the potential for being one. I have enjoyed past works from this author so when I saw she was starting up a new series I anticipated sitting down for a few hours of pure enjoyment...only I got frustration instead!
The lead character is a woman with a shrouded past and hidden talents, which she is just beginning to discover. I won't go into the story, enough people have already done that. I will say the character is well thought out and has enough flaws to keep everything interesting. The supporting characters have also been well thought out and, for most part help keep the story moving along, even if it is slowly. But the plot! The author seems to be wandering around, almost as if she isn't too sure just what she wants the character to discovered or do. The book needs some serious editing to tighten up the plot and get it going, and my biggest complaint is the fact I made myself read almost 400 pages only to find out the mystery does not get solved, not even a hint of it, nor does it end with a cliff hanger, it simply ends with nothing solved.
I'm not to sure if I'm going to buy the sequel, because if the author writes it like she did the first one, none of the original mystery will be solved and I don't want to read another 400 pages of a wandering plotline and still be left hanging. I'm not to sure if I would recommend this one, it has the potential, it just doesn't live up to it. If Carole Douglas is one of your favorite authors, then borrow this one before you buy.

5: Good characters, somewhat weak on pacing
I'm a sucker for the supernatural--I like a story with a twist, a rampaging imagination that takes its reader down unbeaten paths and makes them wish for 'what might have been.' I'm a sucker for the psychological, for characters with twists and turns, a story that takes the reader straight into their head.
This book could have that. The author's obviously spent some time developing the character. The M.C. definitely feels 'placed' within her world, her job, her lifestyle. She's introspective, and we as readers get to enjoy the jumble that goes around inside her head.
What it lacks is pacing. Horrible things happen to the character. Crazy, insane things in fact...and she 'seems' to go right on through life. I'd expect more of a reaction. Hoped for it. But, she doesn't seem to dwell, review, or react to what happened as strongly as it seems as though she should. At times it seems as though she just 'lets things happen' and then moves on.
Perhaps this is only a symptom of earlier on in the book. Perhaps later on, she changes. I hope so, because I could barely make it through Chapter Six.
The dialog, too, could use some work. The example that comes to mind is a phone conversation with a friend asking about a tape of a recent television episode. The friend was fairly instantly able to produce it. I could overlook small bits like that and swing with the book if it wasn't for the pacing issues. So, good author, good promise...but. Those were my issues.
Your mileage may vary.
