1: Great learning tool
This is a great pocket guide to take on clinicals at the hospital when you're on Psych floors. It is easy to carry in your pocket and very helpful when you need to look up a psych drug or something related to your patient. I like the fact that you can also write on it with pen and it comes off with alcohol pads. That way I don't have to carry paper pads with me too.

I really like the new 2nd edition of Psych Notes with all the extra drug information and the labs now in one section. The key disorders are all there and I especially like the tables highlighting what I need to know about key disorders. DSM-IV information is very helpful (includes all classifications and codes) as are assessment rating scales such as SMAST, geriatric depression scale, AIMs, and DSM-IV multiaxial tool. I can fill these out in a pinch and erase with an alcohol wipe. Grouping information by tabs makes it easy to locate info easily and quickly. Great quick reference for clinicals and reviewing!

3: too much unnecessary info
I am a PA student and ordered this book for my psychiatry rotation. There is a lot of good info.. but way too much unnecessary info too. There are sections on freudian theroies (like ID and ego), pages on family therapy steps, communication skills and countless pages of blank history and physical exam sheets that you are never going to write on and make the book 2/3 more bulky than it needs to be. The most clinically important pages... classifying personality disorders, DSM classification, diagnosing psychotic disorders, key side effects of common psychotropic drugs should have been the highlight of the book, but is hidden beneath all of the unnecessary information. In the index, I looked up several common terms and disorders seen in psychiatric patients which were not even in the book which should have been. A good book.. but I didn't end up using it a lot because you have to really sift through it to find the important information you're looking for. (However, the DERMNOTES book similar to this book is excellent- it is concise and highlights the main dermatological points that you will need in a clinical situation.)

4: Must have for any clinical therapist
This small note book is wonderful. Great information and small enough to carry anywhere. Highly recommend.

5: Clinical Helper
This pocket guide came in handy when I had to write my care plans for my patients in mental health clinicals. Some of the others wished they had one.
