1: THANK YOU Mr. Stokes, et al, for this guide
As a member of one of the group efforts (saving farmland from ill-considered proposed routing of I-69 in Eaton County, Michigan) covered in this book, I have a special reason for supporting it's dissemination in the interest of networking similar endeavors at "Saving America's Countryside" (I receive no remuneration for this support). Samuel Stokes has done a great service in conveying the personal and strategic resources necessary in seeing through land resource-saving efforts.
One of the most important insights gained from my own involvement in farmland preservation, was to find that the requisite skills and strategies to handle such situations is to be found within each of us who sincerely wishes to reach for and achieve land-saving goals. Each of us, no matter whence we come, has something important to contribute.
I am an architect. So, in the broadest sense, what I bring to the table, by inclination as well as training, is a wide variety of problem-solving skills and insights. Who each of us is and what each of us has learned in life and formally is needed to meet these challenges. We all have something to offer - believe it! And read Samuel Stoke's book to know it! Pay attention to how others have handled land-saving and you will begin to see specific attributes in yourself capable of helping in "Saving America's Countryside".
