Customer Review:

1: Very sweet
I bought this book for my 4 year old daughter and we snuggle and read it together over and over again. It's a very sweet and encouraging book for a little one.

2: Not my favorite children's book
I bought this book because my son's name is Samuel and it seemed like a it had a good message. But as someone mentioned earlier, it should have emphasized the title's message more. Plus there is a lot of redundancy in the language. It repeats irrelevant phrases or words. It's rather annoying to read. The illustrations are nice though the mother bear is wearing a green sweater and so initially, looking at the pictures, which the kids pick up on first too, I thought she was a papa bear. Just a little thing. I don't highly recommend this book.

3: Sam & His Mother Bake Cakes
Still wonderfully illustrated but not the strongest of the series based on the story line. Mostly about encouraging Sam Bear to do something himself which is a great concept but not executed quite as nicely as the other books. But it would be worth having all the books in the series and a great addition to a toddlers growing library in either the board book or paperback editions. We own all of them and I have bought them for a niece as well.

4: We've read this book over and over and never tire of it
We bought this book three years ago and my kids (4 yrs. and 7 yrs.) still love to read/hear it. I was surprised to see two reviewers describe the text as awkward and "strangely repetitive." The text is repetitive, but it's poetic and emphasizes certain concepts. Typically children like repetition of words and themes. Regarding a previous reviewer's comments about spending more time on the "you can do it" aspect, I'd argue that the part about mama bear and her little cub working together to bake and prepare the packages is as important to the story as the actual delivery. What's not to like about a mom spending time with her son and teaching him how to serve his neighbors? The text of this book is charming and the illustrations are beautiful. We own all three Sam books and regularly give them as gifts. I highly recommend the entire series.

5: Hard to read
This book has many odd semi-repeating phrases. They are difficult to read silently, let alone out loud to your toddler. My husband and I are regular, everyday readers and we love to read to our daughter. However, this particular book was very difficult to find a rhythm or safe pace to read with. The illustrations are sweet.
