1: Works for us
My grandson loves his Brand New Readers. They've increased his confidence as well as his proficiency. And he loves the funny endings.
The sticker rewards are a big hit as well. These books have worked for us just the way they are supposed to.

2: beware: some of these books are in other sets
You can read my other reviews regarding these book sets which I think are pretty good. My big problem with this set is that 4 out of the 10 books are in other sets! "Hide-and-Seek" and "Fish makes Faces" are in the 4 book boxed set titled "Fish and Frog". The 2 books titled "Eddie and Little Skunk" and "No Eggs for Eddie" are in the 4 book boxed set "Eddie the Raccoon". Now I have 4 duplicate books. The company should either list the books on the Amazon website, or write another 4 books.

3: Brand New Readers sets really work!
These sets contain 10 books that each tell a very short story with a funny ending through repetition. Illustrations are done well, characters are memorable. Child feels a sense of accomplishment as the set contains a chart with stickers for each book completed, a certificate of completion and a "BLANK" book for the child to author/illustrate their own book. Set also contains a parent guide. Our son loves these books... highly motivated him into a reader. He is the top reader in his kindergarten class and now has the love of books/reading that will pull him along through his education at a heightened pace.Brand New Readers Purple Set (Brand New Readers)

4: GREAT First Readers!
I purchased a set of these readers for my son and my neice who were not quite in Kindergarten but wanted to read. They are a good mix of sight words (very predictable) and a little phonics. I also loved the helpful hints for parents/teachers at the beginning of each reader. These have been read until they are falling apart. It's the best of both worlds--whole language and phonics combined--and it engages kids and gives them the confidence they need early to love reading without pushing them.
