1: A classic and a must read
I don't remember when I first read this book. I do know however that I have read it so many times over the years. Everytime I am in a bookstore or a library and see this book I want to reread the whole series. That is actualyl what brought me here this time. I just recently purchased another copy from my local library. Even though I know that I have more copies of this somewhere, I know that I do not have any copies currently in my home. I actually just finished this morning and plan to pass the book on to my neighbor who is 13. Hopefully she will get hooked on this family and still be reading them when she is my age.
Now I need to go look and see what kind of deal i can get on the rest of the series since i want them all right now.

2: Wonderful by itself or as the start of a series - beautifully and accessibly written
This book - and the whole series - captures a time and place that will hold both adults and middle schoolers entranced. The Eastern Seaboard in the 70s was a different place - children had more responsbilities and more freedom and there were different standards for adults as well. Cynthia Voight reveals the key period details and moves the story along at just the right clip, and the personalities are rendered in a cleared-eyed and loving way. The Homecoming stands alone as a great story but many will want to see what happens next in the subsequent and equally compelling books in the Tillerman series. Highly recommended.

3: Homecoming...
I really enjoyed the book Homecoming. I think it is a great book for children and young adults ages 10-15. Although this book had a fairly simple and predictable plot, I really liked the language it was written in. Cynthia Voigt used beautiful words in this book that seemed to flow off your tongue when you read it aloud. I suggest this book for people who are looking for a realistic fiction novel with a good bit of adventure. Young readers will find themselves identifying with the main character, Dicey, as she triumphs through the struggles of her life. In my opinion, this book is a smart buy!

4: It was alright
At first, I liked it. It seemed ok. In fact, I didnt mind all the walking. But I wish it had been minimized in description. And the fact that there isnt really much action doesnt help. I know James fell and hit his head, but that wasnt really the action I was expecting. And when they finally arrived at their Aunt's, it was ok. But once they start going into the whole family tree ordeal and talking about her aunt, her great aunt, her aunt uncle's brother's cousin's mother's friend's enemy's child, I became lost and now I have no idea whats going on. And what I dont understand is how these kids had to spend so much money on food! Dicey says "It takes a couple days to starve." But these kids consume so much food! Why dont they not eat for a day, eat one meal the next, with 2 small snacks, and then skip another day of eating, ect? Plus, why didnt they try riding a bus or something? Ok so Dicey couldnt afford it. But what about when they earned money at different places? She should have gotten tickets then. I think they should have also made the conversations and personalities more exciting.

5: Homecoming Book Review
Having to stick together as a family, struggle, and
survival. If you like this then HOMECOMING by Cynthia
Voigt would be a great book for you to read. "It's
still true." What does this quote mean? Who is Aunt
Cilla and Cousin Eunice? Where has the Tillermans mom
gone? All of this and more will be answered if you
read the book HOMECOMING.
HOMECOMING is about a family named the
Tillermans. Their names are Dicey, Maybeth, James,
Sammy, and Momma. When they arrive at a mall momma
says, "Be right back.." This is when their life's will
change forever. Now the Tillerman children are all
alone. They decide to walk to Bridgeport. This is
where Aunt Cilla lives but they have never seen her
before. They hope that their mom has gone there.
Getting there is quite and adventure, but when they
get there the Tillermans find out Aunt Cilla has died.
Now Cousin Eunice (Aunt Cillas daughter) has to take
care of the five children. Another thing the realize
when they get there is that momma is not there. Will
she ever come to rescue them? Will the Tillermans
overcome the hardships they are faced with? What
happens in the rest of the story?
I really enjoyed reading this book. It kept me
thinking about what was going to happen next. I was
always wondering momma was going to come and get them.
I would recommend this book to anybody who likes an
adventurous but sometimes sad story. If you like this
book then you can read the other novels in the
Homecoming series. They are DICEY"S SONG, A SOLITARY
BLUE, THE RUNNER, COME A STRANGER, SONS FROM AFAR, and
SEVENTEEN AGAINST THE DEALER. Read HOMECOMING, you
will not be disappointed!
