1: Tickle, Tickle
ISBN 0027690202 - You should know, before you buy this book, that you'll be required (not by law, although it should be!) to tickle your child at the end. You think that's not important? It's VERY important! It makes Tickle, Tickle a great book for little ones.
A group of very young children play in the mud, get a bath, brush their hair and, of course, get tickled!
The first thing that ought to catch your eye is the racial diversity of the kids - it's right there on the cover, and continues throughout the book, with parents of different races helping them. That's a major plus, in my opinion. The illustrations are cute and despite some vibrant colors, have the feel of "gentle" pastels. There is very little text, and not much in the way of a storyline, making this an excellent book for the very young (up to about 18-24 months) and less enticing for older children. And all children will appreciate the tickle you really do owe them at the end!

2: Laugh Every Time...
My daughter LOVES this book! It's very simple and sweet, but it makes her laugh every time we read it. We often recite it from memory- just for a little giggle. The illustrations are great, multi-cultural representations of cute little babies. We have a stock of these books to give as gifts for all the new babies in our life!

3: Oxenbury is the best!
Great book for babies, great as a gift, too. Babies love the sing-songy verse and adorable pictures in this book and the other three in the series.

4: Good book for under 18 months
I would have liked this book for my son when he was younger, but made the mistake of buying it for him at age two. Though he was slightly amused by the ending "tickle, tickle" it is difficult to hold his attention. Also, since my child does like to spend time looking at pictures in books, it is difficult for him to hear the rhyme because they are spaced out on different pages.
Not for children older than two.

5: Simple Words, but Images Entrance Son
When I first bought Helen Oxenbury's Clap Hands I read some reviews that didn't care for it because of the simplicity of the words used. I am so glad that I went ahead with the purchase. Tickle, Tickle came next for us, and I'm just about to receive two others by Oxenbury. My 20-month-old son just loves them, and has for a few months now. We have reading time every night before bed. Sometimes I read while he's still playing, and sometimes he sits down with me and we look at the books together. With the Oxenbury books he stops what he's doing and comes over to look at the books with me. On some pages he will point out the different objects for me to say; on others he will say the words. His favorite is the page in Clap Hands when the babies are eating. "Open wide and pop it in." He points to the cups and the bear on the bib for me to say the words, but he says "quack" for the duck on the bib, and "apple" and "orange." Sometimes he will just pull out the book himself and turn the pages and study the pictures. There is such detail on each page that it's easy to see why he enjoys them so much.
