1: An enjoyable collection
This is just what the cover says: Maillol's woodcut illstrations for a set of classics - including Daphnis and Chloe, a personal favorite and a little-known story that's had huge effect on the course of Western literature.
The reproductions are all large enough for easy enjoyment and appreciation of detail. The style is basic - linear, not tonal, and with very few complex textures. This heavy, strong style goes well with the heavy work of the farmers and shepherds shown here, and goes with the innocent mood of Daphnis and Chloe. This collection isn't for the body-shy, since mythical and romantic settings often skip clothing - but renderings of men, women, and couples are always tasteful.
It's a great collection and rich source material for artistic inspiration.
