1: Good boy, Spot!
My 2-year old son Connor received Where's Spot for Christmas (thanks, Aunt Judy!) and it was love at first sight. I didn't think anything would be able to knock One Naked Baby from atop his "most requested" list, but this charming little book did the trick.
The book focuses on mama dog Sally's search for her wayward pup Spot, who is late for supper. Each page finds Sally in a different part of the house, and contains a lift-up flap that hides a different animal. The text is kept to a minimum (usually it's just "Is he under the bed, etc.?" followed by "No"), but it has a rhythm that really drew my son's interest and had him eagerly turning pages in the hopes of eventually finding Spot. The illustrations add to the book's charm. There are plenty of bright colors and the animals are just irresistible. I'm a confirmed cynic, but even I can't help but grin when Sally and Spot finally settle down for their dinner. My son's enthusiastic "Good boy, Spot" only makes that smile wider.
As simple as the book may seem, it does include plenty of learning opportunities, from identifying the various animals and colors to the household items and shapes. The repeated use of the word "No" also provides a simple example of how letters are combined to make a word.
This fun little book gets my highest recommendation, and more importantly it get's Connor's "Again, again!" seal of approval. It's a great addition to any toddler's library, and would make a great baby shower gift as well.

2: The search ends.
"Where's Spot" delightfully describes a search for Spot in hidden locations. The toddler lifts a flap to see if the dog is there. Great to read with young grandchildren, even the littlest ones, who loudly say "NO" when Spot is not found. You will hear,"Read it again," when the search is over.

3: Where's Spot
I purchased this book 17 years ago for the first time when my daughter was born. I read it to her nightly and by her first birthday she knew the story completely, shaking her head no at each hiding place we'd look in for Spot. She enjoyed looking under the blanket, and in the closet trying to find Spot. It wasn't a book you just read, it was one where she got to pick up flaps to find other animals hiding throughout the house. It was interactive for her and gave us both great joy. It has become my favorite gift for new parents. I wish them the same joy my daughter and I shared reading this book.

4: My daughter's FAVORITE!
My two-month-old daughter got this book for Christmas. I thought she was too young for it. Boy, was I wrong! It is her absolute favorite!! Now at nine months old, she is lifting all the flaps and turning the pages. She gets so excited when I open this book. I cannot recommend it enough. The pictures are bright, the words repetitious, and the flaps sturdy -- a perfect combination for babies and toddlers! From now on, this is the book I am going to buy whenever I need to buy a baby or toddler gift. No one will be disappointed with Where's Spot!

5: Where's Spot? ***VIDEO***
I am confused looking at the reviews here. They are all for the Spot book. The book is very good too, but the video (here on this page) is also great. I have it for my niece and also for my daughter, and am buying another copy for a baby gift for someone.This video is great for a baby's first cartoon/TV to watch. It is not too "busy" (or too long) for babies like other cartoons can be. I noticed my daughter *really* watching it and smiling and laughing at it around four months old. And she has enjoyed it ever since (and is now 3). It's cute and simple - perfect for babies and toddlers. With my daughter interested in Spot, it gave me time to do some dishes or read the day's mail - uninterupted! I highly recommend *ALL* the Spot videos (although the longer ones, like the Christmas one, my daugter didn't get into as much until she was about two). "Where's Spot" and "Spot at the Farm" are her favorites. And she enjoys the books too. Also - I recommend Kipper the Dog videos too. They are also the same simple shapes/characters and sceneries and stories, just like Spot. And Maisy Mouse videos and books. I never see any babies and toddlers who don't like Spot, Kipper, and Maisy.The Baby Mozart videos are also excellent. Kids are drawn to them. None of the above are wastes of money - and they enjoy them from babyhood into toddlerhood.
