1: Ice
This was more like a short story. It had no layers or depth at all. You don't really know the characters, just that they spent their high school years tormenting each other, but suddenly after fifteen years, one night of fleeing and killing their attackers, one romp in the shower, and they want to spend the rest of the lives together. Really unrealistic, nothing you'd think about again.
If you read other people's recaps, you've read the book; no need to buy it.

2: Linda Howards Needs to Take a Vacation
I've never read anything so dreadful from her word processer before. The plot was well...far fetched is the easiest description I could come up with. How many times did we get to hear about the hero being Big and Muscular? How many times did the villains irrational acts be explained away because they're Meth addicts? How many times was the heroine being plucky and having gumption? The romance, though I don't think it can be called romance, was non-existant. Pardon me, I like a little bit more in the foreplay department than, "I'm cold, let's take a shower together and warm up." And despite all that occured in this book, and I had to try and suspend my disbelief throughout this book, I honestly don't think that the hero and heroine really needed to start talking about getting together. There wasn't anything there except extreme circumstances and a shower scene.
I liked Burn, but even then...Linda, step away from the computer and go outside for a couple of months. Play in the yard, Adopt a Highway, or just go shopping. Do something other than write drivel that's forced. Wait for inspiration to strike, don't force it.

3: So Disappointed
I'm so furious about ICE - which is unreadably bad. It's just disconnected sentences about ice storms and meth addicts and 2 people who barely know each other and don't know each other any better by the end of the book. It's a total wall banger in that I really wanted to throw it at the wall.
And the reason I'm so furious is that I know she can do so much better. She's so talented, why is she tweeting this stuff in? If she's bored, then stop writing, because this feels like a betrayal of her readers. And in hardcover! I would have died if I had actually bought it (or returned it to the store, really!) I'm actually considering taking her off my library list. She needs to have a book everyone raves about before I go near her again (and she was one of my absolute favorites for so long)
To help heal this wound, I reread the entire Mackenzie series (I really love the one with Wolf, set in the 70's but feels like the 50's. Lots of passion and fun - and okay, totally weird stereotyping - but hot!) and Duncan's Bride, always a favorite. (I have the original still in my keeper pile from way back when)
I wish she would write like that again, or stop writing. What she is doing now is too painful :(

4: Thoroughly Enjoyed
Although it was short, it was a pleasure to read. So many of the recent novels I have read have had unlikeable main characters. Lolly was an intelligent, mature and brave heroine with normal insecurities. I liked that she and Chase worked well together and didn't have (as adults) the adversarial relationship and sarcastic conversations that are routinely passed off as courtship in popular novels. While they were strongly attracted to each other it was also a relief that they were not in love with each other after only two days. The background of the ice storm was very timely as I read the book during one of our worst winters. Even laughed at the infamous "Lollipop, can I lick you?" quote. Was sorry the story ended so quickly.

5: such a disappointing read!
I can't believe this book was written by Linda Howard, one of my favorite authors. Her recent releases have mostly been misses, but this one tops the list for sure. The characters are flat, and the storyline is blah. Don't waste your time on this book.
