1: Jessie's book review
If You Come Softly
If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson is about a white Jewish girl, Ellie, and a black boy, Jeremiah. They fall in love with each other. Ellie's parents do not know about them, but Jeremiah's mom does. Ellie's mom left when she was little, and her brothers and sisters took care of each other. Her mother came back and left again when her siblings moved out. Ellie is now older, she is left alone. Her dad is a doctor, so he is not home much, but he tries to be. Her mother came, back and Ellie can't trust her anymore. Jeremiah's parents are divorced. His dad lives across the street from his mother. Jeremiahs dad is a famous movie director and his mother is a well known author.
This book is good because it is a meaningful story about two people who are in love but it could be dangerous for them. Readers would like this because it is a story that could make them happy, sad, and a little blown away by what happens. It puts a good picture in your head and has parts you could not believe.

2: BOOOOORRRRRIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!
This has got to be one of the worst books I have ever read! I realize the the message that this book is trying to convey, but come on! This has got to be one of the most anti-climactic, pointless, boring, pieces of literature out there. I had to read it for my young adult literature class as a means of being able to recommend good books to young adults and I for one will not recommend this book to anyone. I am more than sure that there are countless numbers of books out there that deal with the same topic and I would venture to say that the majority of them would do a much better job at conveying the message than this book does. Very disappointing!

3: Black Boy, White Girl
Jeremiah Roselind is an intelligent black teenage boy who has to attend a fancy prep school. He bumps into Ellie Eisen, a white girl, in the hallway, and they are immediately attracted to one another. Disapproving glances, whispering voices, snide remarks -it isn't the reactions from other people that tear this young couple apart before their relationship has a real chance to grow, but a tragic event.
This is an interesting, well-written story about interracial dating. I was saddened by the ending, but at the same time I can't wait to read the sequel, Behind You.

4: why is this book in the sexual abuse section?
It is not about sexual abuse/rape. I don't think there's even a mention of it.
Anyway, I read this when I was about 13 and liked it a lot. It's about a white girl who falls in love with a black guy and how their friends and families have more of a negative reaction than they would expect. I guess it's kind of an "issue" book, but it is well-written and the relationship between the boy and the girl is sweet, believable, and unique. They're not stock characters who were just invented so the author could make a point.
I feel like I should mention, it doesn't have a happy ending.

5: If You Come Softly
In this book there's a teenage girl named Ellie who falls in love with a another boy her age, named Jeremiah. In this book, it is filled with romance and love which teaches you so much in life. The ending in this book really does teach you about life, even though it is sad, it is a really great way to end this book. I couldn't imagine another ending for this book that makes you think about your life and how much you love the people around you. This book got me into all of Jacqueline Woodson's books. - Kana
