1: No Real Resolution
Tree is twelve and taller than most adults, which is something he hates. People tend to turn their attention to him, when he really just wants to blend in. He's expected to be good at sports but really his two older brothers are the athletes in his family and he has very little coordination.

It used to be just his height that was the problem, but this year is the year that Tree's parents decide to get divorced. They waited until his middle brother, Larry, was in college, but they couldn't wait for Tree to be out of the house, too. His mother moved to a new house across town. His father and grandfather and dog stayed in their old home. Every month Tree's mother types up a new schedule telling him where he will be every week. It's very hard for Tree to deal with.

But there are some good things in Tree's life. He and his grandfather are very close, and because he is so big, Tree is able to help his grandfather when his leg is amputated. A new girl has moved into town and she isn't shy about standing up to the mean girls in the eighth grade who make fun of her. She is a good friend for Tree to have, and she starts to teach him to feel better about himself. And then, when a flood hits town, Tree finds that being big can be useful in helping to rebuild.

Tree's introspective way of telling this story was great. I felt like he was a really sensitive kid who was being really honest about everything, and I liked that. I liked the members of Tree's family. They didn't always get along, but they were all interesting and added to the story.

A weakness of the story was the fact that it sort of meandered, without any real conflict or climax. It was well written and interesting, but didn't really resolve much in the end.

2: Stand Tall
All Tree ever wanted was to be normal. He is the tallest boy ever to go Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School. As a 7th grader he stands at 6'3 and a half. As if the teasing and taunting wasn't enough, his parents are also going through a painful divorce.

This is a wonderful story about friendship, family, and standing tall for what you believe in. I highly recommend this uplifting story!

3: Stand Tall Book review - Mark Spang
The book "Stand Talll is about standing tall, physically and emotionally. A 12-year old seventh grade boy named Tree, is already 6 foot-3 inches tall and still growing. Tree faces a lot of hardships both at home and at school. Tree's life is split up into 3 pieces of pie because his parents got a brutal divorce and he also visits his grandpa. The word "divorce" is a living nightmare for Tree because his life got ripped to shreads. His grandpa, his favorite person to visit, has an injured leg from the Vietnam War where he fought fiercely. The grandpa needs a lot of help and support from Tree, but he also gives him excellent advice by comparing a deceitful divorce to a tragic war.

In school, most kids tease Tree, saying he is a tall freak. However, he makes a friend named Sophia, who boosts Tree up. Tree is surprisingly not athletic. He plays basketball, but isn 't very good at it. His coach nags at Tree for not playing well enough. After a tough day at school, Tree still has to hear tedious arguing from his parents. One day, his dog Bradley nearly died of old age, which would have crushed Tree. Then a flood came toward Tree's house and they had to evacuate to his school. When the gruesome flood was over and Tree saw his house was demoliished, everything is destroyed, literally and figuratively. I don't want to give away the end of the novel, but you can tell that this is a story with depth and emotion.

I would highly rcommend this book because the characters show passion for what they want and for what they love most. I would also recommend this book because it is very descriptive and has a lot of bold similes. The characters' actions make you think, "Is this a good person deep down, a supportive, loving person with a tender heart, or a brutal, self-centered, stuborn jerk?" Each character in the novel experiences a significant event, and each one is well developed. I think you would really enjoy it.

4: Review by Mirit
Stand tall! Standing tall is a metaphor for sticking up for yourself and not letting things such as words hurt you. This book Stand Tall has an amazing message. It shows what happens when people are self-conscious. Then at the same time it shows how the area that you're self-conscious about is a positive feature. It also shows that if you let words or actions get to you then you'll never be happy.
I think that the author, Joan Bauer, really captures the character, Tree, Because she seemed very connected to him. Tree was a seventh grader that had some height self-conscious issues. He also had many other issues to deal with during the duration of this book. He seems to not have many friends too. The good things about this book are that Joan was able to have several conflicts going with Tree, but keep them all under control. When he went through very hard times such as when his grandpa needed help with his leg he seemed to struggle until he met a girl named Sophie who seemed to know how to help. She was a strong character that knew what sticking up was all about. Sophie also went through tough times, but had already learned about letting things get to you and how that can really mess up your life. She helped Tree understand that no ones life is perfect and that there are hard times, amazing times, okay times, and many others.
This book has good quality writing for a teenage book. This book is easy to read because it's about a teenager so it doesn't use complicated words. The good part about that is that you get to focus a lot on the story. Stand Tall is not a slow reader. It seems very climactic so that you want to keep reading it. Almost every chapter something happens that changes Tree's life in a way. An example of that is when a natural disaster occurs and he has a lot of changes to adapt to.
This book is an amazing book and I recommend it to teenagers that need help overcoming self-consciousness and family issues. It helps you get an idea that you're not the only one going through those tough times. It makes people realize that people do care about others and that if you are self-conscious than you should start look at the good things about that area instead of being pessimistic.

5: Taylor's Review
Tree has a problem. He is 6'3" and is only in the 7th grade. His parents just got a divorce, so he's caught in the middle of his parents' arguements. Tree isn't good at basketball, unlike his brothers who are superstar atheletes. When an 8th grade girl named Sophie trys to stand up to a popular girl and gets embarassed, Tree is there for her. Sophie was also there for Tree when his grandpa got his "new leg" after his bad leg was amputated as a result of serving in the Vietnam War. Tree and Sophie stuck together through everything. When Tree's basketball coach made the whole team take ballroom dancing at the YMCA, Tree and Sophie danced together. Later on in about late March or early April, the sand bags for a river in Tree's town, Ripley, don't hold due to a horrible rain storm. Everyone was told to evacuate their houses and go to the Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School. Tree wasn't allowed to take his dog Bradley into the school, so one of his teachers let him put the dog in the school's basement. Tree was worried about Sophie because he didn't see her in the gym and he couldn't get in touch with her. After 2 days of being in the school gym, people were allowed to leave and go to their houses. Tree's brothers, Larry and Curtis, came home from college to help clean up. All three brothers were angry about their parents' divorce. Their grandpa showed them a trick to get the anger out. When they were knocking the sheetrock down with sledgehammers, they slammed them into the wall and got all their anger out.

I recommend this book for kids who have parents going through a divorce or for kids who like to have a long-lasting memory of a book. This book made me think of a lot of things that can happen in everyday life. Things that seem horrible. I leared death helps you celebrate life. War helps you work for peace. Loss helps you reach for a gain. This book is great!
